Some more news .... algunas noticias mas

 Este update deberia haber salido ayer. Un problrma con blogspot y Firefox lo impidio

Perdon por haber tardado tanto en poner un update en el blog.

Los resultados del PET/CT scan dejaron contento al oncologo y no tanto a mi. Los resultados son practicamente identicos al previo scan. Yo estaba esperando una reduccion en los tumores pero no fue asi. El oncologo (y la sabiduria popular) buscan una situacion estable donde lo importante es que no haya un crecimiento de los tumores o  de su actividad. De ahi la satisfaccion del oncologo.

Ayer empece el tratamiento de mantenimiento. Salvo la acostumbrada dificultad de necontrar venas para sacar sangre, el tratamiento fue bien. Jon estuvo conmigo y despues vinimos a casa para comer unos bocadillos de Bakesale Betsy ... umh.

He vuelto al trabajo, El Lunes y hoy en la oficina y ayer en casa.

Lo mas importante es que tenemos billetes para ir a casa este verano!!

Sorry for the delays updating the blog, no excuse.

I talked to the oncologist and he was happy with the results. They show stability, that is no growth in the size or activity of the tumors, I was hoping for a reduction in the size and activity, but

everybody tells me to be happy with results.

Yesterday we started the maintenance treatment. It went fine (mod the usual hunting for veins to draw blood from), it is short (1 hour) and so far is not taking a big toll. Jon was  the Center during the treatment and after we treat ourselves to Bakesale Betsy chicken sandwiches at home ... ummhh.

I am back at work half-day since Monday (yesterday I work from home). We will see how it goes before committing to full days.

... and the most important thing: we have tickets to go home this summer!!

Alea iacta est

I had the PET?CT scans this morning without any problem. The nurse found a vein at the first try! I am not used to that luxury anymore ...
Then we went to a Crepes restaurant with a friend of Lynnette's. It is a good place for lunch.
Saturday we went to Samuel P Taylor State Park for a visit, checking the camping facilities. We hiked a little bit to a lunch spot. I was dead by end of the day. We had time to stop at Scoop's in Fairfax for ice cream, it had been a long time ...

The die has been cast. We will wait until Wednesday ...



Esta manana tuve el PET/CT scans sin ningun problema. La enfermera localizo una vena a la primera, un lujo estos dias :-)
Al mediodia comimos lunch en un restaurante de crepes con una amiga de Lynnette. Buen sitio.
El Sabado visitamos el parque estatal Samuel P Taylor, echar una ojeada a los sitios de acampar.
Fuimos en un paseo hasta en lugar donde comer los bocadillos. Acabe hecho pure al final del dia, pero tuvimos tiempo para parar en Fairfax y comer helado at Scoop's (buenisimo)

La suerte esta hechada. A esperar hasta el Miercoles ...

feeling better .... sintiendome mejor

Up until wednesday I felt the side effects: tired, discomfort in the stomach ... But yesterday and today have been a lot better. There have been busy days, in particular yesterday. I am eagerly waiting to next wednesday when I will have the report on the final PET/CT Scan. I cannot hide that I am nervous, there is a lot at play on those results.But I am confident that they would the most positive.
Yesterday I went to a party for a friend from work. It was interesting to walk to a group of people that I have known and work with and still be unrecognized. It tells me how much I have changed, specially the lack of hair.
Speaking of hair, it is coming back. I have a nice "fuzz", very smooth ans still micro-short. It is growing at irregular patterns and some become topic of discussion. when I meet some of my friends. I just want my hair back.
Tomorrow we will visit another State Park. We will scout camping sites. How confident am I of good news on Wednesday? We have bought a new "large tent", a camping stove, and new boots. Next is the double sleeping bag :-). All these were planned since early December ... when everything went into a stop 


Senti los efectos secundarios hasta el Miercoles: cansancio, estomago revuelto, ... Pero desde ayer me he sentido mucho mejor.Esta semana ha sido bien ajetreada, ayer in particular. Estoy esperando con ansiedad al Miercoles (22) cuando recibire el report del PET/CT scan del Lunes. Es dificil ocultar mi nerviosismo y ansiedad. Me juego mucho en ello, pero tengo confianza de que todo ira bien.
Como estoy de confiado? hemos comprado una tienda "grande" (4 personas) para estar comodos, una cocina de camping (no hornillos), botas nuevas ... y lo siguiente es el saco de dormir doble. habiamos planneado todo esto en Diciembre ... cuando mi mundo toco los frenos.
Manana iremos a un parque, a ojear el terreno para acampar mas tarde.
Ayer fui a una fiesta en honor de un amigo del trabajo. Me aproxime a un grupo que he conocido, y trabajado con ellos, por muchos annos. Les llevo un momento reconocerme. Tanto he cambiado, in particular la falta de pelo.
Hablando de pelo, esta volviendo. Tengo una pelusa muy fina y and muy corta. pero crece de forma irregular. Es un buen topico de discussion cuando veo a algunos amigos. Quiero mi pelo.

Done with the regular chemo. Tuesday I completed the 6th treatment and now I am going through the blah days. The PET/CT scan will be on the 20th and the oncologist appointment on the 22nd. No need to say that I am anxious to have that appointment. We will discuss the results and what to do next.

Today I had an acupuncture session. It is very relaxing (I fall sleep!). In the afternoon we took a nice walk in a very pleasant weather. Tomorrow will be a rest day


El Martes finalize el sexto tratamiento de quimio. Ahora me toca pasar los dias bajos, con los efectos secundarios. Ya tengo fecha para el PET/CT scan, es el dia 20. El dia 22 veremos al oncologista para ir sobre los resultados del scan y discutir que haremos a partir de ahi.

Esta manana tuve una sesion de acupuntura. Fue tan relajante que me qduede dormido por un rato. Luego aprovechamos el tiempo tan agradable para dar una vuelta y hacer algo de ejercicio. Manana a descansar.

Esta ha sido una buena semana. Mi hermana y su marido estuvieron de visita por unos dias. Se me hizo corto, pero aprovechamos el tiempo. Fuimos a Lake Tahoe (con el permiso del oncologo) por tres dias. Por fin toque la nieve! y mira que habia nieve!, Muir Woods, San Francisco ....
Parece que por las dos ultimas semanas he tenido una infeccion de los sinuses. Fui al medico y me dio atibioticos que estan funcionando.
Ahora estoy esperando a el ULTIMO dia de quimio, este martes. Despues el PET/CT scan en tres semanas y decision on que hacemos (quimio de mantenimiento?) Me siento optimista de como van las cosas y solo espero las mejores noticias cuendo tenga el PET/CT scan.

Bueno, ya os contare como va despues de la ultima session del tratamiento.

This was  a good week. My sister and hubby visited for a few days. It felt too short but we made the most of it. We visited Muir Woods, San Francisco, Golden Gate Bridge ... and three days in South Lake Tahoe (with the oncologist's blessing), There was a LOT of snow and I had a chance to play on it.
It seems that I had a sinus infection for the last couple weeks. I am on antibiotics now and they seem to be working.
Tuesday is my LAST chemo session !!!!. Then I need to wait a couple of weeks to have a PET/CT scan and a few more days to discuss the results and look for the future (maintenance chemo? )I am very optimistic.

I will let you know how things go ...

after Chemo ... despues the quimio

El martes tome la quinta sesion de quimio. todo fue bien y ahora estoy recuperandome de el cansancio.
El sabado pasado fuimos a un bosque de Redwoods. Lo pasamos muy bien, no nos cansamos de ver esos arboles.
El Miercoles fui a una sesion de acupuntura. Es algo ... diferente, pero me dejo muy bien.
Como veis no hay mucho que contar, y eso es bueno!

I just came out of the fifth chemo session on Tuesday. Now it is time to recover. Last Saturday we went to Armstrong Redwood Park. We had a great time, we do not get enough of the trees.
On Wednesday I had an acupuncture session. It is different ... but I liked it.
As you see, there is not a lot to tell, but that is a good thing!

slow days ... dias sin mucho que contar

these are the lull days, waiting for next week's 5th chemo cycle. I have felt a little more tired that what I was expecting. I think it has to do with the difficulty breathing of the last few days. Hard to decided if it is cancer related or that around now is when I would have problems with my asthma (pollen!). I plan to see a lung specialist for a consult.
Saturday we took a trip to Mt Tam State Park. A year ago we hiked from Stinson Beach to Mt Tam. In the way after Pantoll, we saw a lot of wild Irises. This time we drove up to Pantoll and hiked for less than a mile for a picnic. To my surprise the irises had decided to migrate to lower ground and we saw many of them. I am sure that halfway up Mt Tam there will be tons of them. It was fun.
Today was blood test day. results are ok. Later on I will hear about the INR (blood thinning) results and what the schedule for the medicine will be.
Tomorrow I will attend the support group with Lynnette.
It is so nice to have so many days in a row without a dramatic announcement!!

Pasando los dias, esperando que llegue el quinto cicle de la quimio la proxima semana. He estado un poco mas cansado que lo que esperaba. Puede que sea debido  a que en los ultimos dias he tenido dificultad respirando. Dificil saber si es el cancer o el asma (esta es la epoca cuando el polen me da problemas). Voy a ver a un especialista del pulmon por si acaso.
El sabado fuimos al parque nacional de Mount Tam(alpais). Hace un anno Lynnette y yo hicimos una salida desde la playa hast la cima de Mt Tam (mil y poco metros) Habia cantidad de Irises salvajes, fue precioso. Eta vez fuimos en coche hast un poco menos que la mitad de la subida. Andamos como un kilometro  y tuvimos un picnic. Fue maravilloso. Tuvimos la agradable sorpresa que este anno las Irises migraron a alturas mas bajas! Vimos muchas, son tan bonitas.
Hoy he tenido un analisis de sangre. Todo esta bien, mas tarde me llamaran con los INR (anticoagulante) y  me diran que cantidades de medicina debo tomar.
Manana ire al grupo de ayuda (cancer de pulmon) con Lynnette. El mismo que fui hace un mes.
Que bien tener unos dias sin drama!.
